Blogging might not be pointless

Until recently I was pretty sure that blogging was pointless. So many people are publishing so much random information (right or wrong) and there is really no peer review system - other than the rants and ravings of the critical readers. (It seems that in responding to blog posts it's OK to say all sorts of things that you would never say to someone's face.)
However, I might want to qualify my 'pointless' opinion a bit now. There are now 'professional' bloggers who (for all I know) are the next generation of journalists. My occasional venturing into the blogosphere recently has uncovered some interesting writing on various topics. Those few gems are still greatly outweighed by the uninformed nonsense that fill the majority of blogs. But ... there might be some hope.
